SAN ANTONIO – Animal Care Services says they’re noticing a concerning trend this year: more calls for injured animals.
Officials say there have already been about a thousand more calls than this time last year, which is a ten percent uptick.
These calls can be for animals hit by cars, parvo cases, sickness, or other injuries.
And the fiscal year is still far from over.
ACS Assistant Director Brad Davenport says this has put a strain on some resources.
“It makes it more difficult because we are having to take each of the injured animals to our clinic or to the animal emergency room,” Davenport said. “So that takes the officer out of response where they can’t get to the next call.”
If you see an injured animal, you’re asked to call 311 and give the exact location, as well as leave your contact information in case the officer has trouble finding it.
